Bowl Projections 2012: Clemson Tigers and Teams That Don't Deserve a Berth

Katie DayNov 14, 2011

With disappointing losses and some lucky wins, there are several teams that do not deserve a bowl berth.

With the season nearly coming to an end for college ball, these teams are judged on wins and losses.

Despite their wins and how they are ranked, one may question whether they are worthy of a bowl game bid.

Why do these teams not deserve a bowl? Let's find out.

Michigan Wolverines

1 of 5

The Wolverines did not deserve the hype that surrounded them earlier this season, and their losses prove that. The hype that surrounded their 6-0 start was false. Those wins were against mediocre teams.

They were beaten and battered by Michigan State, who stopped Denard Robinson's rush. Robinson's inaccuracy was greatly shown in that game and also in the loss against the Iowa Hawkeyes.

The only ranked team they have played so far this year was the (at the time) No. 23 Spartans.

This week, they play No. 16 Nebraska, and if they lose against the Cornhuskers, especially at home, it will prove they do not deserve a bowl.

Boise State Broncos

Boise State's hopes for an undefeated season were taken away from them in the loss against TCU. They fell to No. 10 in the rankings, and one would think they deserve a shot at a BCS bowl game.

Wrong. Look at their schedule. They play in the Mountain West conference.

The only ranked team they've played against was the first game of the season against No. 19 Georgia and now, that team is not ranked.

Compared to teams that have played against two or three highly ranked opponents, Boise State doesn't even deserve that high of a ranking. They are overrated. They are not true contenders.

They don't deserve a bid for a BCS bowl.

Cincinnati Bearcats

3 of 5

No teams in the Big East are currently ranked. Playing in a conference that is falling apart, it's not a surprise to see Cincinnati at the top of the conference—where five of the eight teams have five wins or fewer—with seven wins.

Of the four games played in the conference, they've lost one. However, the wins were against teams that have only won five games. Against these teams, should these wins even count as a bid toward a bowl game?

The Bearcats got lucky, and their luck shouldn't take them to a bowl.

It's mostly the same reasons as Cincinnati—playing in a conference where most of the teams have five wins.

This doesn't even merit a bid. Plus, they are in a four-way tie for second place in the Big East.

They are overall an average team at best. Their defense has done pretty well limiting the points against and is the only reason they've been winning.

This is the team that is not as good as they are on paper.

Clemson Tigers

5 of 5

The only loss they've had this season was against Georgia Tech, an unranked team that pummeled them 31-17. They had a scare in their last game against Wake Forest, as they were losing 28-14 late in the third quarter.

A late rally brought them a win and the ACC Atlantic Division title.

Do they deserve a bid? Most of the teams they've played this season were mediocre at best. The three ranked teams they beat were Auburn, Florida State and Virginia Tech.

Auburn went on to lose four more games and how they are still ranked is beyond belief.

Florida State had a three-game losing streak in the beginning and are back in the rankings after winning five straight.

The only worthy opponent Clemson has beaten is Virginia Tech, who has overrun the ACC for years.

As of right now, Clemson doesn't deserve a BCS bowl.
