The 10 Most Mercurial 2012 NFL Free Agents
Week 10 will likely end with a Green Bay Packers victory and constant talk about a perfect season.
The praise is well deserved for Aaron Rodgers and co, as they could possibly become one of only three teams to finish with a 16-0 record.
As Week 11 approaches, we will start viewing more divisional games and, as a result, the playoff picture should become clearer.
There are several teams who went all-in to take that next step, whether it be for the playoffs or even the Super Bowl (*cough* Eagles*cough*). Of course, there were teams who decided to stay pat rather than spend in free agency.
We have had mixed results for both cases but I am sure free agency in 2012 will be more controlled, without the bothersome lockout that occurred last year.
The free agency class of 2012 looks to be a good one, with headline names such as Drew Brees and Reggie Wayne. This is a talented class but there are a few free agents who've had off-field issues and/or consistency with on the field production.
Here are 10 free agents to watch out for.
Peyton Hillis
1 of 10Peyton Hillis will not receive the long term contract he has desired; well at least not from the Cleveland Browns.
His off-field issues have become problematic and other teams have noticed. Hillis should take a page from Matt Forte's book and just play football.
Paul Soliai
2 of 10Paul Soliai is the ideal 3-4 nose tackle but his weight issues have prevented a long term deal from being reached.
The Miami Dolphins obviously wanted to resign Soliai after placing the franchise tag on the veteran but may now pass on resigning him.
If the Dolphins overhaul their coaching staff, Soliai could be looking for another team this offseason.
Cliff Avril
3 of 10Cliff Avril is currently playing at a high level, but the four year veteran has never completed a full season.
Avril played in only nine games last season but I wouldn't necessarily call him injury prone.
The real issue is his immaturity on the field. The Detroit Lions have played hot-headed in recent weeks, and Avril (along with Suh) continue to lead this march.
Vincent Jackson
4 of 10Vincent Jackson's contract issues have long been documented. He held out last season and only played in five games.
Jackson has also had off-filed issues with numerous DUI's. His on the field production last season, especially his performance last week against the Chiefs, has also raised eyebrows.
Pierre Garcon
5 of 10Pierre Garcon is having a solid season up to this point, but the four year veteran has had trouble holding onto balls.
He had a phenomenal sophomore season but fell off last year. His consistency issues will raise red flags for the Colts and other teams who may be interested.
Dwayne Bowe
6 of 10Dwayne Bowe is one of the more talented wide receivers in the league but his immaturity issues have dogged his reputation a bit.
Wide receivers tend to be divas, and Bowe definitely has had his moments.
Vince Young
7 of 10We all know about Vince Young and his tumultuous relationship with Jeff Fisher. He signed on as a backup to Michael Vick but really hasn't had the opportunity to showcase any improved skills.
The question still remains whether Young can lead a team.
Cedric Benson
8 of 10Cedric Benson has revived his career in Cincinnati but his off-field issues are still a concern.
Benson was suspended for three games for off-filed issues, though the appeal limited his suspension to one game.
The Bengals want to run the offense through Benson for several years until Andy Dalton is ready, but his off-field issues may prevent a long term future from happening.
David Garrard
9 of 10David Garrard is currently a free agent but I'm not sure if a team would take a chance on a 33-year old quarterback coming off surgery.
Garrard wasn't lighting up the league anyways, and I expect his days as a starter to be over.
Desean Jackson
10 of 10Desean Jackson is talented but inconsistent. His game is predicated on the deep ball, and if the quarterback is not strong-armed, Jackson will struggle.
Jackson's production this season has decreased from his phenomenal play in 2010, and I'm sure contract issues are partly to blame.
The Eagles will sign Desean Jackson at a reduced price or let the four year veteran test the market.
Desean Jackson's immaturity issues have always been a problem for the Eagles and have come to the forefront now with his recent suspension.
