Oregon Football: Ducks' Win over Stanford Propels Them to No. 4 in BCS Rankings

Joe PenkalaNov 13, 2011

This past weekend, the cards broke the Ducks' way as they made a huge move in the most recent BCS rankings.

With a loss by Boise State and Oregon taking out Stanford on the road, the Ducks jumped from No. 7 to No. 4 and put themselves in position to possibly get back into the national title game.

Over the weekend, Oregon went to Stanford and with the nation's attention on Stanford and Andrew Luck, the Ducks delivered with a 23-point victory. The win ended Stanford's perfect season and then also took control of the Pac-12 North.

Remaining on the schedule for Oregon is USC and Oregon State at Autzen Stadium. If the Ducks win both of those games, although they only need one for the division win, they will host the Pac-12 title game and could end the year at 12-1 and Pac-12 champions.

What Oregon seems to be going up against is the fact that Alabama only dropped one spot with their loss to LSU at home, while Oregon dropped 10 full spots when they lost to LSU at a neutral field. With this movement, Oregon still finds themselves behind Alabama and could get left out despite Alabama not winning its own conference.

Regardless of the argument of who is the best one-loss team, the fact remains that if LSU and Oklahoma State win out, they will face off for the BCS title game.

One thing is for sure, if the Ducks want to make things difficult on the BCS and voters, they must win their final two games and then dominate the Pac-12 title game. If that happens and one of the undefeated teams lose, we could be in for an interesting situation.
