UFC on FOX Results: Is Benson Henderson the Best Lightweight in the UFC?
Former WEC Lightweight Champion Benson Henderson may have earned a title shot at UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar, but he still isn't the best lightweight in the UFC.
Benson Henderson first got the attention of the MMA world when he captured the WEC lightweight title from Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone at WEC 43.
He had two successful title defenses until losing to Anthony Pettis via unanimous decision in a fight where Henderson was the recipient of the famous "Showtime Kick."
After the UFC's merger with the WEC, Henderson went 2-0 in the UFC.
It was Henderson's win over former contender Jim Miller that got people talking about a potential shot at the lightweight title.
But, Henderson had to get through one man first: Clay Guida.
At UFC on FOX, Henderson proved he was the better fighter; he was always one step ahead of Guida in every area of the fight game.
Now, Henderson is to face Frankie Edgar at the UFC's first event in Japan in over a decade.
Has Henderson shown that he has the tools to beat Edgar?
Henderson proved that he's a very good fighter, but Edgar is a great fighter; Henderson won't be able to beat him.
Edgar's speed, heart, determination, quick hands and conditioning are unmatched at the lightweight level.
Benson Henderson might be the second-best lightweight in the UFC, but it's Frankie Edgar that's indisputably the best.
