College Football: 10 Teams That the Pollsters Were Completely Wrong About
The AP Pollsters for some odd reasons do not watch college football. I mean they must watch the games, but the rankings have been off a ton in recent weeks. The USA Today/Coaches' Poll is not completely off since the coaches know a little bit more about the teams in college football.
So, which teams did these so called "experts" completely miss on?
Georgia Bulldogs
1 of 10The Dawgs were ranked 13th in the AP Poll and just 15th in the Coaches'. Are you kidding me?
There is not one team that could touch Georgia right now outside of the top five, and they have now won eight games in a row.
I would not put them in my top eight, but they should be right there with Virginia Tech and Boise State. Their defense is among the top 10 in the nation and the running game is really picking it up.
Michigan State Spartans
2 of 10Sparty came into Kinnick with a lot on the line since they could stay on top of their division. They walked away with a huge victory and now control their own destiny to take on the Badgers most likely in the Big Ten Championship.
Kirk Cousins and the offense finally played relevant football, but it is not like they are knocking off any decent teams. The Big Ten is mediocre at best right now, and I would wait for Michigan State to get to the 10-win mark before I rank them in my top 12.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
3 of 10There is no doubt that the Irish have top 25 talent, but they are still a week away from being ranked in my top 25. They just knocked off an awful ACC team in Maryland and they have Boston College upcoming.
I would wait at least one more week before I put them in the rankings because they still need to prove more to me if I were voting. The Irish's schedule has been mediocre at best and we should see just how good the Irish are when they take on Stanford.
Florida State Seminoles
4 of 10It was a joke how the 'Noles were not ranked last weekend and now that they are they seemingly only moved up three spots?
They have won five straight games and are playing much better football than the five teams ahead. Sure, those teams have only two losses, but they have not been playing better football than FSU.
TCU is the one team you could make an argument for since they are coming off a big win against a Boise State team that has won 65 straight games.
Penn State lost a close game at home, but they have not passed the eye ball test in months. Throw in a Southern Miss. team that has played nobody and the Seminoles could certainly have some beef.
Stanford Cardinal
5 of 10I know Andrew Luck is the best player in the country, but his defense was atrocious in open space when attempting to tackle the flying Ducks.
Stanford has no business being ranked eighth, and it is crime they are even in the top 10 actually. They were just embarrassed in their own building and only dropped five spots?
Are you kidding me? They were blown out by Oregon by allowing 232 yards rushing and the offense ended up turning it over five times. Sorry, but no team deserves to be ranked over the likes of Virginia Tech or Georgia.
South Carolina
6 of 10Are the Gamecocks really the 14th-best team in America? They escaped with a victory over the Florida Gators who are 5-5!
The game was at home and yet they could not do anything offensively. If they lose to Clemson there is a good chance they would be ranked despite having three brutal losses.
Losing to Auburn at home was tough, but they were blown out by Arkansas. If they lose to Clemson they should completely drop out since the resume has not been impressive.
Penn State Nittany Lions
7 of 10The Nittany Lions has been impressive at times this season, but the offense has not done much. They lost at home to a solid Nebraska squad but did not drop much (nine spots, not enough).
Some teams have dropped a dozen spots in years past and most were expecting to see the Nittany Lions drop a bit. It was an all-time tumultuous week, but this team has been lucky to have their winning ways continue before the Nebraska game.
Clemson Tigers
8 of 10The Tigers' defense has been struggling mightily and they nearly were upset by an average Wake Forest team. Clemson has only one loss, but it was to Georgia Tech on the road. They have been way too inconsistent in the past few weeks to be ranked No. 7.
TCU Horned Frogs
9 of 10The TCU Horned Frogs ended the Broncos 65-game winning streak, but that does not deserve a Top 18 ranking in my eyes. Let them win a few more ballgames before we completely crown them as Mountain West champions.
USC Trojans
10 of 10All these rankings in the AP Poll are beyond atrocious and the Trojans at No. 18 in the AP Poll is a bit off. The Trojans lost to Stanford at home, but we cannot count that as a good thing. They could not win the big games when they have had the chances and that loss to Arizona State is awful right now.
