Patriots vs. Jets: Why Tom Brady and Pats Will Get the Best of Jets D

Luis BatlleNov 13, 2011

Despite a current three-game win streak, the No. 6 passing defense in the NFL of the New York Jets will not have an answer for Tom Brady and the New England Patriots on Sunday night in the Week 10 matchup.

Why exactly will Revis and the Jets be unable to slow down the Patriots offense enough?

For one, the last time Tom Brady and the New England Patriots ever lost three-straight games came in 2002, when the team would go from 3-0 to 3-3 on the season. The Patriots are not only a team notorious for their ability to win football games, but also for their consistency and ability to make adjustments on a week-to-week basis.

The other key factor will be the simple fact that the Patriots are arguably the best team in football in the passing game. Throwing for over 325 yards per game, the Patriots currently hold the No. 1 passing offense in the NFL. Brady has been on a clinic this season despite his struggles as of late, throwing for a league-best 2,703 yards and a solid 20 touchdowns on the year.

Not to mention, in their previous meeting with the Jets this season, Brady threw for 321 yards and a touchdown against the Revis-led defense. Considering the talent on this Jets defensive unit, these are numbers that are certainly capable of getting it done.

The play of top-notch wide receiver Wes Welker will be huge in this contest. Welker leads all receivers in the NFL with 960 yards. Welker has also been able to reel in six touchdowns as well. Against the Jets earlier this season, Welker was able to go for 124 yards in the game despite the Revis-led Jets D putting top-notch coverage on him.

If Welker breaks loose and gives Brady the breaks he needs on third-down conversions, Brady and the Patriots should have no problem coming away with the victory Sunday night.

The other key will be the play of tight ends Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski. The two have been producing big-time numbers all season, combining for 929 yards and a whopping 11 of Brady's 20 touchdown passes.

Talk about some production.

When it's all said and done, the Jets D will come to play and may well get off to a hot start in this contest, yet there is no question the Patriots will come out victorious and rack up the points on this Jets defense. Expect the Jets winning streak to come to an end.
