Dallas Cowboys Play Their Best Game in Tony Romo Era in 44-7 Win Against Bills

Manik AggarwalNov 13, 2011

The Dallas Cowboys played the best game they have played since the Triplets were in town, earning a decisive 44-7 victory.

The offense was absolutely flawless in the first half. Tony Romo finished with three touchdowns and only one incompletion. DeMarco Murray tacked on a rushing score as well. Jason Witten was making third-down plays, Dez Bryant was dazzling all over the field and Laurent Robinson chipped in with a pair of touchdown grabs. His first grab was on a critical third down in the red-zone, and the second grab basically sealed the game for the Dallas Cowboys. Similarly, the defense was playing well with DeMarcus Ware starting the game with a sack and the secondary coming up with play after play, Terence Newman capping it off with a pick-six.

This was the team’s best win since Romo took over as the starting quarterback. It is clear Romo has had better passing days over the last five years, and the defense has had better days as a group, too. For once, however, the entire team played like a champion. The Cowboys kept the intensity up the entire game and Romo showed he can be the leader and manager of the offense, whichever one is needed. We saw the Dallas defense play out Rob Ryan’s dream of an attacking and aggressive group that forces turnovers and wreaks havoc.

Best of all, this win came against a respectable Buffalo Bills team that has beaten the New England Patriots and is tied for the division lead in a very formidable division. The Cowboys were expected to beat up the Rams a few weeks ago, and are expected to beat the Dolphins in a few weeks. Today’s win came against a strong AFC team and it should give Dallas a lot of momentum and confidence heading into the next six games.

Most importantly, it gives the locker room a reason to smile. In Dallas, that cannot be underestimated. The Cowboys are the most scrutinized and followed team in the NFL, regardless if they are playing well or poorly. Everyone is focused on finding flaws, blaming the quarterback or the game plan and speculating when the Cowboys will collapse next.

Today proved to be different right from the outset. Romo was finding receivers, Murray was running the ball and the defense was playing excellent. The Cowboys/Bills showdown this weekend looked more like a 1993 game in Pasadena when Troy Aikman led the Cowboys to a 52-17 win over the Bills in Super Bowl XXVII.
