Dallas Cowboys: At 5-4 Now, the Boys Will Finish 10-6 with a Wild Card Berth

Manik AggarwalNov 14, 2011

While the first handful of games were a total rollercoaster for the Dallas Cowboys, it finally seems like the Boys know what they want to do and how they want to win games.

It is not necessarily about winning every game at this point. More importantly, it is about creating an identity, adapting it for each game and executing it to perfection. This is what makes a so-so September team into a streaking January team.

Will these Cowboys make it far in the playoffs? Nobody knows. Can they even make the playoffs at this point? How they finish and how their competition fares over the next six to eight weeks will determine that. At this point, the Cowboys look poised to finish the season 10-6.

Looking at the calendar, it looks clear that the Cowboys should have an undefeated November with wins in the next 10 days against Washington and Miami, which would take them to 7-4. Before a vicious December stretch of four games, the Cowboys face the Cardinals, which should be a Dallas victory, sending them to 8-4.

The final four games of the season will prove devilish with games coming against the Giants twice, Philly once and Tampa Bay. Of these four games, the Cowboys should be able to split them and finish the season 2-2, for a final record of 10-6.

With a strong NFC, 10 wins might not be sufficient to make the wild card. It is clear that the NFC North will take one wild card spot and the final wild card will either go to the second-place team in the NFC East or NFC South.

When it is all said and done, I believe the Cowboys will squeak their way into the playoffs as a sixth seed. Regardless of these prognostications, the most important thing for Dallas is to maintain their identity, keep playing their game and continue to get better. The December schedule will not get any easier if the Cowboys have a lapse in judgment in a November gimme game.

If the Dallas Cowboys can watch game film from their resounding victory against the Buffalo Bills and maintain their momentum over the next few weeks, they could begin peaking at the right time. Tony Romo is playing healthy for the first time all season, and he finally has a legitimate running back and a set of revolving receivers who continue to make big plays. These Dallas Cowboys are here to stay.
