UFC on Fox Results: 5 Reasons Junior Dos Santos Will Be Champ for a Long Time

Jeffrey McKinneyNov 13, 2011

UFC on FOX had the fireworks many fans expected.

Junior dos Santos was able to stop Cain Velasquez in a minute and four seconds to become the new UFC heavyweight champion.

Dos Santos has been dominant in many of his UFC fights thus far and has the potential to become one of the greatest champions in UFC history.

Although a camps reign can end just as quickly as it begins, dos Santos may have the belt for a long time.

Here are the reasons why.

He Is One of the Best Strikers in MMA Today

1 of 5

Although striking is not everything in MMA, it helps when a fighter can stand and bang with anybody.

Dos Santos has gone toe to toe with some of the heavyweight division's best strikers.

Thanks to his power, foot movement, and precise boxing, dos Santos has climbed to the top of the mountain.

His Wrestling Is Improving Fight by Fight

2 of 5

With his win over Cain Velasquez, dos Santos has now defeated two of the best wrestlers in the UFC today.

Dos Santos has been able to avoid many takedowns thus far and has even been successful when he does attempt to go for them.

Although he would rather keep the fight standing, dos Santos has proved that he could hold his own with some of the best wrestlers in the game today.

He Has a Good Chin

3 of 5

For dos Santos to continue to be successful at what he does, he has to have a good chin.

Dos Santos is willing to stand with anybody and could easily get caught.

We have yet to see this, though.

Dos Santos has taken hard shots from Mirko Cro Cop, Roy Nelson and Shane Carwin, but he was able to survive.

If dos Santos can take shots from the hardest hitters in the game and appear to not be fazed, there's a good chance he can take just about anything from anybody.

He Has an Underrated Jiu-Jitsu Game

4 of 5

Junior dos Santos is currently a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under the Nogueira brothers.

Although we haven't seen much of it, don't count dos Santos out if one of his fights ever goes to the ground.

Being trained under one of the best Jiu-Jitsu practitioners has to make you dangerous on the ground.

He Trains with Some of the Best in MMA Today

5 of 5

Sometimes a fighter is only as good as those who train with him.

If that's the case for dos Santos, then he's in great shape.

Dos Santos not only trains under the Nogueira brothers, he works with Lyoto Machida, Jose Aldo, and Anderson Silva

Dos Santos is surrounded by some of the greatest fighters in MMA history and continues to get better match by match.
