Jeremy Maclin Injury: Update on Eagles Star's Shoulder

Wes ODonnellNov 13, 2011

Jeremy Maclin is the most targeted receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles. He came into today's game against the Arizona Cardinals needing to be even better than that because running mate DeSean Jackson was put on the inactive list for the week.

Just over half way through the first quarter Maclin has been take to the locker room to look at his right shoulder.

He was shaken up on a hit by Cardinals safety Adrian Wilson on an incomplete pass over the middle.

UPDATE: 5:06 remaining in the game, by Kyle Vassalo

Maclin went down yet again, this time with a hamstring injury. The Eagles just knocked in a field goal to put them up 17-14 and with DeSean Jackson sidelined, they can't afford to have Maclin out when they get into crunch time.

According to ESPN's John Clayton, his return is questionable.

UPDATE: 12 minutes into 2nd quarter

What Happened?

Maclin returned to the sideline and caught passes from Vince Young.

He then returned to the huddle when the Eagles took over.

What's Being Said About Chance of Re-Injury?

Nothing, reports indicate his shoulder is fine:

Lingering Effects Beyond Game

Appear to be none. Maclin's hit didn't look too damaging and his speedy return indicates he's fine.

INITIAL UPDATE

Fantasy Impact

Crippling. Maclin is one of the top playmakers and a guaranteed start as a No. 2 wide receiver. His loss will hurt fantasy receivers.

Who's the Backup?

Jason Avant was already starting for DeSean Jackson in this game so Riley Cooper is going to have to replace Maclin.

Former New York Giant Steve Smith will stay in the slot.

Devastation Scale

Seven. This is huge for the Eagles who already have trouble incorporating other receivers as it is.

Vick has come to depend on Maclin more than any other in the wake of DeSean Jackson's drop in production.

Fortunately, they are playing a dismal Cardinals secondary and can lean on Vick and LeSean McCoy's legs.

They will, however, need Avant, Cooper and Smith to step up. They've already dropped two balls.

Timeline for Return

There is nothing to report yet on Maclin's status. We will update accordingly.

What They're Saying

Eagles beat writer Paul Domowitch tweeted:

If he is out for the duration of this game it will be on Vick and McCoy to carry this team.
