Denver Broncos Must Keep Tim Tebow at the Reins as Season Winds Down

Justin WeltonNov 13, 2011

Tim Tebow needs time. All quarterbacks in the NFL need time to showcase their complete array of talents. If Tebow is given time by the Denver Broncos organization, the team will benefit this season and beyond. Who is Denver kidding if it doesn’t stick with Tebow? It would be a colossal mistake.

Do you know what Peyton Manning did in his first six starts? Six touchdowns to 14 interceptions. Do you know how many wins Manning had? One.

What about the great Brett Favre? He had nine touchdowns to nine interceptions. He won three games.

Tebow has nine touchdowns to four interceptions and three victories in his six career starts.

I’m not saying Tebow is going to be Manning or Favre good, but I’m saying he needs time to prove himself. He is on a better statistical pace than Manning and on an even-keel pace with Favre.

I know he has looked bad at times, but he’s getting better week after week. Tebow hasn’t thrown more interceptions than touchdowns, he has scored multiple touchdowns in two of his three starts this season and he is 2-1.

It isn’t the prettiest of play, but Tebow has a strange way of getting the job done. He has more wins than previous quarterback Kyle Orton had all season long.

He can also do something that Manning and Favre couldn’t do and that is run the ball. With the Broncos implementing his college-style of option running, Tebow has excelled. If it’s working, why would the Broncos switch their style for another quarterback?

Tebow has been the No. 1 reason why the Broncos are back in the thick of things in the AFC West. He has a legitimate chance of propelling the Broncos to the division crown if the Broncos decide to stick with him.

If the Broncos are so trustworthy of their thoughts that Tebow isn’t a No. 1 quarterback, they should just leave him in there and have him prove them right. If he does horrible, which they obviously thought he would, then there would be no excuse to keep him as the starter next season.

It’s a win/win situation for the Broncos, and they would be crazy to put anybody else in as their starting quarterback. It would be one of the worst moves in the NFL in a long time. Tebow HAS to remain the starter because he has EARNED it. He is a first-round pick that is winning games and not turning the ball over.

If it was any other quarterback with less than 10 starts, would you take it? Without a doubt.

If the Broncos want to make the postseason this season, Tebow has to be their quarterback.
