Redskins vs. Dolphins: 5 Halftime Adjustments Miami Must Make

Jeff KneisNov 13, 2011

Miami comes into the game with a 1-7 record and is hoping to pick up their second win today. The Dolphins are in the hunt for the No. 1 overall pick and could get the hyped Andrew Luck. The Dolphins have a great chance to double their season win total today.

Miami has played a good first half and looks to finish off the Redskins in the second half. Matt Moore needs to limit his mistakes to give the Dolphins a chance to win in the second half.

Here are five things Miami must do in the second half against Washington:

1) Keep the Pressure on Grossman

Miami needs to keep pressuring Rex Grossman with their front seven. Rex Grossman will make mistakes when trying to hurry his throws and the Miami defense can get key turnovers by doing so.

By keeping pressure on Grossman the Dolphins can keep the ball on offense and can keep the defense fresh for the second half.

2) Keep Protecting Matt Moore

The Redskins have not been able to get pressure on Matt Moore. When Moore has time, the Dolphins offense is very successful.

By giving Matt Moore time the Dolphins offense can reach its full potential. The Dolphins can have a balanced offense that can be equally effective on the ground and through the air.

3) Limit Penalties

Miami's defense picked up a few penalties that have helped extend the Redskins' offensive drives. The Dolphins need to avoid penalties to get the ball back to the offense.

The Redskins offense has not been effective and helping extend drives can lead to points. The Dolphins have been lucky that the penalties haven't hurt the team more.

4) Establish the Run Game

The Dolphins have had limited success on the ground and will need to find ways to be effective. Matt Moore has looked shaky and will need a strong running game to limit his mistakes.

The running game can open up lanes downfield if the Redskins are forced to put an eighth player in the box.

5) Keep Stopping the Run Game

The Redskins have had very limited success establishing the ground game against Miami. It will be key to keep limiting the run game which will force the Redskins to keep passing downfield.

Rex Grossman has been known to make mistakes and forcing him to throw could lead to a few in the second half.
