Redskins vs. Dolphins: 5 Halftime Adjustments Washington Must Make

Jeff KneisNov 13, 2011

The Redskins come into this game looking to get back in the NFC East race. Rex Grossman gets the start and looks to lead the Skins to a win. Can the Redskins go on the road and pick up a win?

The Redskins have played a decent first half, but will need to pick it up to come out with a win. Grossman needs to get protection for the offensive line to be effective in the second half.

Here are five things Washington must do in the second half against Miami:

1) Protect Rex Grossman

The Redskins need their offensive line to step up and give Rex Grossman time to find receivers downfield. The offensive line production has not been good so far and will need to improve going forward.

The Redskins will need to show a threat of downfield passing and Rex will not be effective without giving him time. Washington needs to be able to convert long 3rd downs with passing plays.

2) Get Pressure on Matt Moore

Washington needs to find a way to get pressure on Matt Moore and create turnovers.

Matt Moore looks far too comfortable in the pocket and has been known to make mistakes under fire. The Redskins will need to bring pressure through blitzing linebackers.

3) Keep Finding Jabar Gaffney

Jabar Gaffney had just one reception for 20 yards in the first half, but has found some space in the middle of the Miami defense.

Rex Grossman needs to locate Gaffney downfield for big gains. The downfield passes will keep the pressure off Grossman and can open up lanes for the running game.

4) More Turnovers

The Redskins need to get more turnovers to get the offense a short field to score points. The offense has not been effective and the defense needs to help give Grossman easy scoring opportunities.

The interception created a great opportunity for the offense and ultimately led to a field goal. More turnovers should create more points.

5) Keep Forcing Matt Moore to Pass

Matt Moore has had limited success against the Redskins defense. He had one horrible interception and Washington can expect more turnovers with the defense limiting the running game.

The defense can force turnovers by making the Dolphins one-dimensional on offense.
