UFC on Fox: Where Does Cain Velasquez Now Rank in the Heavyweight Division?

Tim McTiernanNov 13, 2011

On Saturday night, Cain Velasquez got demolished in only 64 seconds, as Junior dos Santos knocked him out en route to winning the UFC heavyweight title.

After such a brutal and fast loss, you've got to wonder where Cain Velasquez ranks now in the heavyweight division?

The top five in the heavyweight division are pretty standard no matter who you ask.

In no particular order, you have Junior dos Santos, Shane Carwin, Alistair Overeem, Cain Velasquez and Brock Lesnar.

Even after the loss, Cain is still the No. 2 heavyweight in the world.

In order, the top five heavyweights are as follows: Junior dos Santos, Cain Velasquez, Brock Lesnar, Alistair Overeem and Shane Carwin.

Junior has beaten Cain and Carwin, and Cain has beaten Brock.

Overeem hasn't looked impressive against anyone of note lately, and Carwin is on a two-fight losing streak.

There's no doubt that Cain is still the second best heavyweight in the world, and that Junior and him will meet again sometime down the road.

Hopefully they meet two more times, as they could have one of the most epic trilogies ever seen in MMA.

For now, Cain will have to work his way back up to the top, and with one or two more wins, he'll get another shot at the heavyweight title, and potentially at Junior.
