Mario Manningham Injury: Fantasy Football Replacements for Injured Giants WR

Nicholas GossNov 13, 2011

New York Giants wide receiver Mario Manningham is questionable for Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers with a knee injury, and against an elite defense he is a must-sit on your fantasy football team this week.

With fellow receiver Hakeem Nicks also battling an injury on Sunday, Giants quarterback Eli Manning might have a depleted receiving corps against a great 49ers defense.

He has made the trip with the team to the West coast but you must monitor his status as game time approaches.

He has a 4:05 p.m. EST start time today so set your lineup accordingly. Manning will likely throw the ball a lot on Sunday because the 49ers run defense is so good.

If Manningham's condition stays the same or worsens, you must consider replacing him in your fantasy lineup.

Let's look at three replacements for Manningham for Week 10.

1. Victor Cruz

After a breakout 110 yards receiving and two touchdowns performance against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3, New York Giants wide receiving Victor Cruz has been consistently excellent for fantasy owners.

He's had 91 yards receiving or more four times since Week 3, and caught six passes for 91 yards against the New England Patriots last week.

Cruz is one of Manning's most reliable targets and his speed makes him a deep threat. Cruz should be starting even if Manningham was not hurt.

2. Early Doucet

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Early Doucet had 78 yards receiving last week and is a solid No. 2 option for the Cardinals behind all-pro receiver Larry Fitzgerald.

Doucet is probably sitting on your waiver wire or free agent list in your fantasy league right now, so go grab him if you need an emergency receiver replacement.

Against an average Philadelphia Eagles defense in Week 10, Doucet could have another quality game.

3. Steve Breaston

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Steve Breaston is another quality waiver wire pickup, and with seven catches and 115 yards receiving last week he has become a must-start fantasy receiver.

Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel has gotten Breaston involved the past few weeks, and against a bad Denver Broncos defense in Week 10, Breaston could have another fine performance.
