Meanwhile, Mayweather has fought Marquez one time, and he destroyed him. That fight also went the distance, but it wasn't even close. Mayweather won every round.

What Results Tell Us

As they say, boxing is all about styles. That means you can't compare the results against common fighters and always find answers. However, in this case their is valuable insight to be gained.

Marquez's strength as a fighter is counter punching. This has given Pacquiao absolute fits. It was believed that Pac-Man's improved right hand would lead him to dominating Marquez in this fight, but it clearly didn't. He still struggled against an elite counter-puncher.

Why Mayweather Would Destroy Pac-Man

As good of a counter-puncher as Marquez is he has nothing on Mayweather. Maywether is one of the best defensive fighters that boxing has ever seen. And he can counter-punch from any position and at any time.

Pacquiao had a hard time landing punches on Marquez, and that left him open to counters by Marquez. This would be wildly amplified against Mayweather.

Pacquiao would not be able to land any solid blows on Mayweather, and Mayweather would pummel him with counter punches. He might not score a knockout, but on scorecards this fight wouldn't be close.
