UFC on Fox: Junior Dos Santos Dethrones Champion with One Leg

Kyle SymesNov 12, 2011

At the UFC on Fox event, Junior Dos Santos emerged as the new UFC Heavyweight Champion after crushing Cain Velasquez with a thunderous right hand.

While attempting to hold back tears, Dos Santos admitted to Joe Rogan he was scared of fighting Velasquez. He also said that he was not 100 percent heading into the bout and speculation ran rampant as fans wondered what the injury was.

MMAFighting.com main man Ariel Helwani confirmed on his Twitter account the nature of Dos Santos' injury.

According to Helwani, Dos Santos fought with a torn meniscus, an injury he suffered 11 days prior to the event and was on crutches for two days.

Everyone knows that a fighter never comes into a bout at 100 percent health, but most injury-related admissions come as a result of either a loss or a poor performance.

Luckily for Dos Santos, the bout never really got started, as Velasquez seemed tentative and refused to push the pace in a manner we are used to seeing from the former champion.

To think Dos Santos ran through Velasquez on one good leg is astonishing and begs the question of "what if he had two healthy legs?"

We would never have known Dos Santos was injured, especially by the way he was able to move and knock out Velasquez.

Dos Santos has demolished everyone he's been up against in the UFC. He faced down the wrestling threat of Shane Carwin and then toppled one of the better heavyweight strikers.

With the revelation that Dos Santos had that serious of an injury and looked as good as he did, fans have to be wondering, "Is Junior Dos Santos beatable?"
