UFC on FOX: Junior Dos Santos Is the Best Heavyweight in MMA

Junior Dos Santos has arrived. 

It only took 64 seconds for the Brazilian to dethrone Cain Velasquez and fulfill his destiny of becoming UFC heavyweight champion. 

With the victory, "Cigano" has now finished six of his last eight opponents and remains undefeated in the UFC. 

The win will likely feel bitter sweet for Dos Santos, as he has not only captured the UFC heavyweight crown, but he has avenged a loss for his protege Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Velasquez knocked out Nogueira at UFC 110 last year.

Dos Santos entered the Octagon with a cold, confident look on his face, almost optimistic about his chances. As the bout began, Velasquez immediately pushed forward and began to impose his will on the challenger. He landed leg kicks to try and take away the power and speed in dos Santos' striking and movement, but the Brazilian kept his distance and remained patient. 

Dos Santos attempted a front kick and Velasquez countered and shot for a single leg take down, but Dos Santos shrugged him off and began to push forward and started to pick his shots. 

The Brazilian measured his distance as both competitors took center of the Octagon, and Dos Santos threw an overhand right that dropped Velasquez. He followed up with some ground-and pound and Velasquez was unable to recover, forcing referee John McCarthy to signal the end of bout at 1:04 in the first round.

The Brazilian's celebrations will be short-lived, however, as he expected to make his first title defense against the winner of Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem who will headline UFC 141. 

Dos Santos' journey to the heavyweight title has now come full circle and his win over Velasquez has solidified his status as the best heavyweight in mixed martial arts.
