UFC on FOX: Ben Henderson Shows Clay Guida How Good He Is

Zachary D. RymerNov 12, 2011

Clay Guida knew he was going to be in for a challenge against Ben Henderson at UFC on FOX. Despite that, he didn't sound overly worried about losing when he opened his mouth about the upcoming bout.

"I believe I've beaten better opponents and lost to better opponents, but he's very determined," said Guida, per USA Today.

Oops. The bout between Guida and Henderson, an appetizer for tonight's heavyweight championship bout between Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos, turned into an all-out brawl. At the very least, it was obvious that Guida and Henderson were equals.

But ultimately, it was Henderson who prevailed. The fight went the distance, and Henderson was given the victory via unanimous decision.

There were moments when it looked like Henderson was going to finish Guida, but to his credit Guida refused to go quietly. There weren't many instances in which he was able to get the drop on Henderson, but Guida didn't make it easy for him either.

By the time the final bell rang, both fighters definitely looked like they had been in a fight. Guida may have lost, but he is free to use the old "you should see the other guy" line.

At any rate, Henderson is now standing on a three-fight winning streak, all of which have come in UFC. With these three in the books, it's on to the next one.

Which is a big fight. Having proved he belongs in UFC, Henderson is now staring at a Lightweight Championship bout with Frankie Edgar, who hasn't been beaten since 2008. He's made it abundantly clear that the lightweight title is his and his alone.

That said, Edgar better not make the mistake of underestimating Henderson. Guida did that, and he'll no doubt vouch that it was a mistake that should not be replicated.
