BCS Rankings: Who's More Deserving of No. 2 Spot, Alabama or Stanford?

In the event that Oklahoma State loses one of their remaining two games, the No. 2 spot in the BCS rankings would be up for grabs, likely to Alabama or Stanford.

The Crimson Tide already have one loss and the Cardinal are currently unbeaten pending the conclusion of the their game tonight with Oregon.

But which team is more deserving of the No. 2 spot should Oklahoma State lose?

The simple answer would be Stanford, as they would be undefeated. Unfortunately, the BCS is not that simple, apparent by the fact that an undefeated Boise State team is ranked behind a one loss Alabama team currently. 

Let's take a look at each teams resume so far.

Alabama has had a very impressive season thus far with wins over Arkansas, Florida and Penn State, with their only loss coming to the No. 1 team in the country by three points.

Stanford, on the other hand, doesn't have as many good wins, despite being undefeated. Its most impressive wins came against USC in triple overtime and Washington, but a win over Oregon tonight would boost their resume greatly. 

The BCS will, for sure, favor the Crimson Tide in the strength of schedule aspect of the computer voting. However, the human aspect is likely to favor an undefeated Stanford team over a one loss Alabama team. 

In the history of the BCS, a one loss team has never been ranked ahead of an undefeated team from one of the automatic qualifying conferences when all is said and done, good news for Stanford.

If both teams win out, Stanford deserves the No. 2 spot ahead of Alabama, no matter how good the SEC is. If a team can go undefeated in one of the major conferences, they do not deserve to sit behind a one loss team in the BCS rankings.
