Pacquiao vs. Marquez: Would a Juan Manuel Marquez Win Set Up a 4th Fight?

Nicholas GossNov 12, 2011

Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez will fight for the third time tonight in Las Vegas on Saturday night, and if Marquez were to pull off a stunning upset of Pacquiao would there be a fourth bout between the two talented boxers?

After the first fight between the two was a draw, Pacquiao won the second one in 2008. If Marquez were to win bout No. 3 then we are back where we started with each fighter having a win, a loss and a draw.

Without a clear cut winner a fourth fight would be a good way to determine this mini-series.

The problem with a fourth Pacquiao versus Marquez fight would be the fight would prolong the wait for a historic fight between Pac-Man and Floyd Mayweather.

Mayweather wants to fight in early May of next year in Las Vegas and many people think his opponent could be Pacquiao.

It seems that both fighters want this bout to happen and that their past differences can be put to the side in order to finally successfully organize this long awaited fight.

Before that happens, Marquez has a decent chance to upset Pacquiao on Saturday night.

Since they have fought twice before, there is likely very little that Pac-Man will show the Mexican that he has not seen before.

Marquez has also gotten a lot stronger for this fight, and is full of confidence. Not many opponents come into a bout with Pacquiao with a lot of confidence, and unless he dominates early Pacquiao could struggle to knockout Marquez until the later rounds.

While the trilogy of fights between Pacquiao and Marquez is probably going to be their only bouts against each other, a Marquez upset in fight No. 3 would open up an intriguing question to whether or not a fourth fight should happen.
