Velasquez vs. Dos Santos: Is the UFC on Fox the Biggest Sports Story of the Day?
With the UFC making its debut on network television in its heavyweight championship bout between Cain Velásquez and Junior dos Santos, is there anything better to watch on television tonight?
MMA is an up-and-coming sport that has grown interest faster than any other American sport.
It had a 106 percent year over year increase in online interest, which more than triples that of the NHL, which had a 35 percent increase.
And what a better way to promote this sport even more so than having Velásquez and dos Santos, two of the most well-known fighters in the UFC, square off in the Octagon on national TV Saturday night?
If you thought that fight was enough to keep you busy on a Saturday night, think again.
Over at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, Manny Pacquiao will be taking on Juan Manuel Marquez in a welterweight championship bout.
It will be the third time the rivals face each other; the first fight was declared a draw, but Pacquiao came out victorious in the most recent matchup in '08.
Marquez made himself heard, as he does not agree with either of the judges' decisions.
Between the talent of these two boxers and the history they have with one another, expect this fight to live up to expectations.
On top of the two major fights that are taking place tonight, the Oregon Ducks football team will be traveling down to Palo Alto to take on the Stanford Cardinal in a Pac-12 game with national championship implications.
The seventh-ranked Ducks are not favored in this matchup even though they are the defending Pac-10 champions and bested the Cardinal 52-31 in Eugene last year.
Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck, the Heisman Trophy contender, will be seeking to avenge last year's loss at the hands of the Ducks.
The winner of this game will likely represent the Pac-12 North in the conference championship game, and possibly move up to a top three ranking.
So when it's all said and done, there is an abundance of sporting events on TV tonight, so you better get your Tivo set before it's too late!
