Brett Favre in New York: Packers Made a Huge Mistake

RyanDec 16, 2008

This summer, the Green Bay Packers had a huge decision to make.

Brett Favre decided that he wanted to comeback for another season, which only seemed to surprise the Packers. They had to chose between their "future" and their "past". They chose to go with Aaron Rodgers, and traded Favre to the Jets. This is a mistake that they will regret for years to come.

Rodgers was drafted in the first round in the 2005 NFL Draft. He was considered to be the eventual replacement to Favre. Over the past two seasons before this year, he played in only a few games, and only in blowouts.

He didn't show anyone anything in those games, and in my mind, he was just not that good.

The Green Bay Packers chose to go with this man as the replacement to Favre. This was a huge mistake.

They were only one play away from the Super Bowl last season, and has their same team coming back this year. Brett Favre wanted to come back for another year, and the team shut the door on him. One of the best quarterbacks of all time was traded so that an unproven player could lead a team that had Super Bowl expectations this year. They are now 5-9 with Rodgers "leading" them.

Favre is leading a Jets team into the playoffs that had a horrible year last year. There is no coincidence that Favre took this team into the playoffs, and the Packers fell apart without him. He was just nominated to the Pro Bowl again, and rightfully so. He turned the Jets team around.

Aaron Rodgers has a 5-9 record, and has done nothing to show that he should be playing quarterback in the NFL. he may be putting up good stats, but if you do not win, you aren't good enough.

The Packers got what they deserved this year for letting the franchise icon walk out the door.

Ted Thompson needs to be fired as soon as the season ends for making this mistake. That might not happen, but I know one thing, I hope the Jets make the Super Bowl with Favre, and I hope they win so that the Packers will see what mistake they made while they are sitting at home, watching the game, and not going anywhere for years, without a quarterback who knows what it takes to play in the NFL.
