Manny Pacquiao: Why Floyd Mayweather Is Running Scared
Floyd Mayweather has avoided fighting Manny Pacquiao at all costs for several good reasons.
The most obvious is that Pacquiao is damn good.
The Filipino legend packs as much power into his "weak" right hand as his menacing left hand, which is an incredible rarity in boxing. Mayweather is the best defensive fighter in the world, but Pacquiao's switch-hitter style would cause him major problems.
Mayweather's camp insists that Pac-Man is the one avoiding the fight, what with the blood testing fiasco and all. But I think it is Mayweather who has been running.
He cherishes his 42-0 record above all else and Pacquiao is the only welterweight on earth who can ruin it. Personally, I wouldn't blame him for dodging this fight.
And while I do think he's been avoiding Pacquiao, it isn't necessarily because he's scared of losing. Mayweather takes great pleasure in pissing off the general public. That's just undeniable at this point.
If he made it easy to get this fight scheduled, he would be doing what everyone wants him to do. And if he did that, he wouldn't be Floyd Mayweather.
But the main reason he's been putting this fight off is that he loves getting paid. His name isn't "Money" Mayweather for nothing. And the longer he puts off this fight, the richer his payday will be.
Mayweather has appeared in the three highest grossing non-heavyweight fights in pay-per-view history, and a bout with Pacquiao would put all of those to shame.
He may be threatened by Pacquiao, but Mayweather knows he can win this fight. Eventually, this fight will get done and everyone will get what they want.
