NFL Power Ranking: Atlanta Falcons and More Teams That Will Rise in Week 10

Josh SchochNov 12, 2011

It's been a crazy NFL season so far, and the power rankings show that. In Week 10, these three teams will jump from average positions to top-notch teams, proving that they are legit.

These teams all had rough starts to the season, but they have righted the ship and are looking to get into the playoffs.

New York Jets

The Jets were ranked No. 11 in the most recent power rankings, after beating the Buffalo Bills and securing a tie atop the AFC East.  The Jets started the season 2-0, but then lost three-straight road games.  After that they won two more home games and had a bye.  Last week they won their first road game against the Buffalo Bills.

This week the Jets host a New England Patriots team that has lost two-straight games.  The Jets are 4-0 at home this season, and they are about to go 5-0.

The Patriots have a pathetic defense, and they rely on their passing game to outscore their opponents.  However, the Jets have an elite pass defense led by Darrelle Revis, and they allow fewer than 200 passing yards per game.

The Jets played the Patriots close in New England in Week 5, limiting Tom Brady, Wes Welker and the Pats' offense.

The Jets struggle on the road, but now that they are at home and Brady's favorite target Welker is going to be slowed by an injury, they are ready to topple the Pats and hand them a third straight loss.

This will give the Jets the outright lead in the AFC East at 6-3, and put them in the playoff picture.

Cincinnati Bengals

Led by rookies Andy Dalton and A.J. Green and a terrific defense, the Bengals have bounced back from a 1-2 start to win six-straight games.

The Bengals host the Pittsburgh Steelers this week, and if they win they extend their lead in the AFC North.

The Steelers rely on their running game and defense to beat opponents, but the Bengals are second in the league against the run.  The Steelers pass well too, but the Bengals are a top 10 team against the pass, as well and they can stop the Steelers.

The Bengals don't have a great offense, but facing the Steelers defense they should score just enough to give them a chance.

The Bengals' defense is the reason they've been winning, and they can certainly stop the Steelers.  Once they do that they will win this game and prove that they are legit contenders.

Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons started 2-3 this season, but have won three-straight games and now host the division-leading Saints.

The Falcons are tough to beat at home, with their only loss coming against the Green Bay Packers, who needed a comeback to win.

The Falcons are 5-3, but only ranked No. 13 in the most recent power rankings.  With a win they take control of the NFC South and prove that they are legit contenders.

By stopping a potent Saints offense the Falcons would prove that they are a well-rounded team and deserve to be a Top 10 team.
