Pacquiao vs. Marquez III: Why Floyd Mayweather Hopes Pac-Man Wins

Josh SchochNov 12, 2011

The Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez fight has serious implications for Floyd Mayweather, Jr., as well.  Mayweather wants to prove he's the best boxer in the world, and the only way to do that is to fight Pac-Man.

Mayweather already fought and beat Marquez by unanimous decision (120-107, 119-108, 118-109).  He has proven that he is the better fighter than Marquez, and Pac-Man must show that, too, before the two can have their mega-fight.

Pacquiao has not produced a decisive win in his first two bouts with Marquez, so he will need to win by unanimous decision or knockout in this one.

Mayweather is on a quest to be the best, and the only way he can prove that would be for Pac-Man to win tonight.  Mayweather is obviously rooting for that result, and then the two will need to agree on anti-doping tests before they fight.

Everyone—including the two fighters—wants to see a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight. However, Pacquiao has to win first, so let's break down the fight.

Pacquiao vs. Marquez III

Marquez has had to gain a lot of weight for this fight (roughly 10-15 pounds).  His body is very new to him, and that will hurt him in this one.  While he gained quite a bit of muscle, he will not be able to use it because he will be too slow to touch Pacquiao.

Pac-Man has not had to change his weight for this one, but he did change his training.  Manny sparred a day earlier than usual for this one to shake off the rust and get ready.  There are very few people who witnessed his sparring and think he is still rusty.

Pacquiao will fight angry in this one, and this is the first time.  He and Marquez have some bad blood, and he will use that to his advantage.

Pac-Man isn't going to win this fight—he's going to dominate it and knock out Marquez.

Aftermath

This sets up the super-fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather.  The media and general public have been begging for this fight, and there will be no way the fighters can say no.

We will soon see this fight and finally learn who the best boxer in the world truly is.
