NFL Picks Week 10: Tom Brady and Patriots Offense Will Dominate Jets on the Road

Nicholas GossNov 11, 2011

The New England Patriots and New York Jets will continue the NFL's best rivalry on Sunday night, in a game which is almost a must-win for both teams.

Jets head coach Rex Ryan knows that both teams will be ready to go for this matchup, which will help decide who has the best chance to win the AFC East division.

"Both teams are going to be humming for this one, no question," Ryan said. "You can sugarcoat it all you want, but they know they need it and we know we need it. Both teams are going to be hungry."

With both wild-card playoff spots possibly coming out of the AFC North, the loser of this game could find themselves out of the playoffs this season.

The Patriots offense has not played well in recent weeks, and is one of the reasons for the team's current two-game losing streak, but the unit as a whole will play better on Sunday night and lead the Patriots to an important win.

The reason the offense will improve is because the running game will be a bigger part of the Patriots' game plan.

BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Danny Woodhead will lead a rushing attack that is more than capable of succeeding against the Jets, who do not have a run-stuffing nose tackle in the center of the defensive line.

The Jets are allowing 123 yards per game on the ground this season, and in a Week 5 loss to the Patriots, New York allowed Green-Ellis to rush for 136 yards and two touchdowns.

The Patriots ran the ball 35 times for 152 yards in Week 5 and will likely use another run-heavy offensive strategy on Sunday night.

Quarterback Tom Brady does not play mediocre in three straight games, and neither have the Patriots as a team for much of Bill Belichick's head coaching tenure.

The Patriots will use a strong and effective running game this week to beat the Jets and establish themselves as a true contender in the AFC, and allow themselves to have a great chance to win the AFC East division.
