Week 10 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Brandon Jacobs and Others to Bench

Ryan PhillipsNov 11, 2011

Brandon Jacobs

Subbing for an injured Ahmad Bradshaw in Week 9, New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs had his best game of the season. The 29-year-old totaled 100 yards and a touchdown on 22 touches in the team's 24-20 win over the New England Patriots.

That performance no doubt got some fantasy football owners excited and had them jumping to add him. Well, if you're one of those people, you really need to keep him on your bench this weekend. In Week 10, the Giants and Jacobs will be facing the San Francisco 49ers and their top-ranked rushing defense. The 49ers are allowing just 70.8 yards per game on the ground.

That's bad news for Jacobs owners, as he should be seeing the majority of the carries in New York's backfield. That won't mean a whole lot, as the 49ers are sure to stuff the run like they've done all season.

A.J. Green

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green has had a nice season so far, leading all rookies in receptions (40), receiving yards (599) and touchdowns (five). He also ranks seventh in the AFC in receptions and yards.

Obviously, if you own him, Green is the kind of guy you expect to keep in the lineup every week. Well, every week except this one.

The Bengals face a Pittsburgh Steelers defense that has yet to allow a 100-yard receiver all season and boasts the league's third-best pass defense, allowing just 184.7 yards per game. If you're looking for a big game out of one of your wideouts, Green is not the guy to turn to this Sunday.

Reggie Wayne

The Indianapolis Colts are probably the worst team in the NFL this season. They are 0-9 and their normally-vaunted passing offense ranks 28th in the league, averaging just 182.8 yards per game. As a result, Reggie Wayne has gone from a top fantasy option at wide receiver to not even worthy of a start.

On Sunday, Wayne and the Colts will face the Jacksonville Jaguars and their pass defense, which ranks seventh in the NFL in pass defense, as they are allowing just 197.0 yards per game. Wayne had just 30 yards on four receptions against the Falcons in Week 9, and you shouldn't expect more than that from him as long as Curtis Painter is throwing him the ball.
