NFL Power Rankings: Predicting What Will Change After Week 10

John RozumNov 11, 2011

Week 10 in the 2011 NFL season will be quite a revealing week. There are big divisional games between the Broncos-Chiefs, Pats-Jets, Lions-Bears, Saints-Falcons and the Steelers-Bengals.

In addition however, there are also big non-divisional games between the Giants-49ers, Bills-Cowboys and Texans-Buccaneers. So with that said, here are just a few things that will change after Week 10 concludes.

Buffalo Bills Drop Out of Playoff Race

Buffalo is 2-3 in their last five games, haven't won a road game since Week 1 over Kansas City, and allow around 380 total yards per game.

Hence, living off turnovers defensively doesn't last and the offense has been lacking the past month. This week Buffalo will lose at Dallas and ultimately fall just short of the postseason. With the home loss against the New York Jets, it was clear how to expose the Bills.

Run the football and trust your defense. And although the Bills remaining schedule isn't overly difficult, they still have to play the Pats and Jets once more and the Bengals have the head-to-head tiebreaker. Not to mention five of their final eight games are on the road (including Week 10).

Bears and Lions Flip Positions

The Chicago Bears will get a big divisional win over the Detroit Lions this week and they will then be tied at 6-3 a piece. Obviously whoever finishes the NFC North in second place has a much better shot at making the postseason, but that will favor The Windy City after Week 10.

Detroit still has to play Green Bay twice, as well as the Saints and Raiders. That's quite possibly four losses right there. As for Chicago, only one game left against the Packers and at Oakland in Week 12.

Chicago has the easier road from here on out and based on recent weeks, the Bears have played much better football than Detroit which is why they get the W this week.

AFC West Opens Up Even More

There's no other division that's more wide-open right now than the AFC West. Oakland leads at 5-4 with their road win over San Diego on Thursday.

Additionally, the Broncos will get a road win over K.C. this week as the Chiefs aren't playing nearly as well as they should at home. Besting the Bolts was clutch, but that wouldn't have occurred if Philip Rivers didn't pull a Joe Pisarchik.

As for Denver, they split the season series with Oakland and still have one game left against Kansas City and San Diego. After Week 10 Oakland will remain in first at 5-4, but everyone else will be tied for second at 4-5.

Everyone will have a divisional record of 2-2, so with just one game separating all the franchises through nine games played, the AFC West will come down to Week 17 once again.
