Manny Pacquiao: Are Fans Starting To Question His Desire To Fight Mayweather?

Mick AkersNov 11, 2011

As Manny Pacquiao is set to again take on Juan Manuel Marquez in the ring, some fans could care less about Pacquiao meeting the same fighter for the third time, as they feel that Pac Man could actually be dodging a bout with the undefeated welterweight, Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

Year after year goes by, and the mega fight between boxing's two biggest stars keeps evading the ring, making fans wonder what the big holdup is.

Pacquiao has built up his reputation since his last loss to Erik Morales back in 2005. Pacquiao has since become known as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, as Mayweather fights too sparingly for most experts to keep him at the top, despite his 42-0 record.

Since Mayweather has been the more outspoken one about why the fight isn't taking place, it makes it easier to blame Pacquiao for the fight failing to come to fruition so far.

Fans dismiss the fact that Pacquiao is not meeting up with Mayweather, which they don't mind as long as Pac Man keeps on winning.

However, other fans are becoming restless and are starting to back Pacquiao up less, as the years the fight doesn't take place go by.

Pacquiao, like Mayweather, has a lot to lose if he were to suffer a defeat at the hands of Money May, which could be the big factor that Pacquiao is dodging in the potential fight of the decade.

With Pacquiao landing endorsement after endorsement over the past few years, the backers would likely want nothing to do with Pacquiao if he were to lose to Mayweather, a loss that would let down his legion of fans.

There's no telling how a loss to Mayweather could affect his political career in his home country of the Philippines either, as there is no guarantee that he would win in a re-election bid once his current term is up.

Sure, Mayweather has a lot to lose as well, but most of that is an ego thing for him, as Mayweather feels he is the best simply because he hasn't loss.

A loss for Pacquiao means letting down an entire country where he is the biggest star and their biggest hope.

So if his desire is really not there to fight Mayweather, one could understand why: Pacquiao has the weight of an entire country on his shoulders.
