Juan Manuel Marquez: If He Beats Pacquiao, Could He Fight Floyd Mayweather Next?
Juan Manuel Marquez probably won’t win on Saturday. If he does, however, is he likely to fight Floyd Mayweather next?
I wouldn’t bet on it. There’s not a single reason that could explain why Dinamita would fight Mayweather for a second time.
First, Marquez has absolutely no chance of winning against Mayweather. While the Mexican fighter has an edge against Pacquiao, and can always hope to upset him, that's not the case with Mayweather.
Mayweather is a defensive fighter who won’t give his opponent anything. Pacquiao often commits mistakes in the ring and Marquez takes advantage of those. But Mayweather doesn’t commit any mistakes, so there’s nothing Dinamita can do.
Even if Marquez would want to fight Mayweather next, no one would be interested in it—not even Mayweather himself.
The 2009 fight was clearly one-sided. Judge Burt Clements had a 120-107 card, while the two other judges had cards with scores of 119-108 and 118-109.
Why would anyone want to watch this fight again?
Nothing has changed since 2009, except that Marquez is older.
Mayweather would have no reason to fight an opponent that he already defeated easily. The pay-per-view wouldn’t even draw much attention.
If Marquez wins, will he fight Mayweather next?
Marquez isn’t interested. Mayweather isn’t either. And probably no boxing fan is. The answer is simple: It won’t happen.
The Mexican boxing icon has more chances of winning on Saturday than he does of ever facing Mayweather again.
