LSU Football: 5 Keys for the Tigers Finishing the Season Undefeated

Sean MerrimanNov 10, 2011

Three regular season games remain for the LSU Tigers.

If the Tigers can beat Western Kentucky, Ole Miss and Arkansas, and then capture a victory in the SEC Title Game, they will finish the season unbeaten and stamp their ticket to the BCS Title Game.

However, finishing a season with an unbeaten record is by no means easy, even for a team as talented as LSU.

Let's break down five keys in order for the Tigers' to remain undefeated this season.

Bleacher Report Style!

1. Continue to Establish the Run Game

1 of 5

LSU is at its best when it is running the ball successfully.

Spencer Ware is the lead back in this backfield, but the likes of Michael Ford and Alfred Blue have also made big contributions this season.

LSU should be ahead in its three remaining games, which means that they will rely heavily on the run. If they can keep this success going in the backfield, there is no excuse for this team to lose another game this season.

2. Stay Healthy

2 of 5

This team is dominant right now, but if they are going to stay unbeaten and make a run at the BCS Title Game, they have to stay healthy, especially their big playmakers.

This team's secondary is the best in the nation, and part of that reason is because they work so well together as a unit. If anyone goes down, the unit could loose the chemistry that has made them so successful this season.

A healthy LSU team is the best in the nation. They proved that this past weekend against Alabama.

3. Continue to Play Dominant Defense

3 of 5

LSU's dominant defense has gotten them this far, and if they want to stay unbeaten, they need to continue to play at a high level.

The Tigers' next two games against Western Kentucky and Ole Miss should be a breeze, but expect LSU's defense to really get tested in that regular season finale against Tyler Wilson and that Arkansas offense.

The defense will get tested again in the SEC Championship game.

If they can get through that stretch of two games and maintain this dominance on defense, they can say "hello" to the BCS Title Game.

4. Get Rueben Randle Involved

4 of 5

Rueben Randle is quite possibly the most explosive offense playmaker on this LSU team, but they have to get him more involved.

Randle was near invisible in last weekend's Alabama game, but before that, he was putting up huge numbers and making big play after big play.

On the season, Randle has 35 catches for 657 yards and seven touchdowns, all three of which are tops on the team. But his numbers could be even bigger if Jarrett Lee and Jordan Jefferson looked his way more and this offense made it more of a point to get the ball in his hands.

This team proved they are great on defense. They can be great on offense, as wellespecially when the ball is in Randle's hands.

5. Do Not Let Up

5 of 5

The chances of LSU losing to Western Kentucky are about the same as the Indianapolis Colts finishing the season with a six-game winning steak.

But the key is that the Tigers can not have a letdown after coming off such an emotional win this past weekend.

Les Miles is a great coach, but he will be tested to make sure that his team takes the remainder of their schedule one game at a time.

If they can get there, they can focus on college football's biggest prize:

A BCS National Championship.
