Penn State Scandal: Nittany Lions Can't Afford to Have Mike McQueary on Sideline

The dismissals are coming fast and furious at Penn State, yet Mike McQueary remains employed by the university. They are doing the right thing by cleaning house, but going half-way and allowing remnants of the scandal representing their team on the sideline just can't happen.

McQueary was the grad student who allegedly caught Jerry Sandusky in the act in the Penn State locker room. Like Joe Paterno, the public is outraged not by what he did, but what he didn't do.

Why didn't he intervene? Why was his first phone call to his father and not to authorities? What about that situation seemed like it could be swept under the rug?

Him sticking his head in the sand isn't just comparable to Paterno's inaction, it's worse. Still, the university hasn't brought the hammer down on him yet.

Somehow, McQueary still has a job. The Nittany Lions have a long road ahead of them in restoring their image. Their reluctance to oust McQueary immediately is unacceptable.

Change is necessary. This is the worst scandal in the history of college football, yet Penn State is picking and choosing which of those who brought so much shame to the university are going to stay and which are going to go?

It's nonsense.

Everyone who knew has to go—plain and simple. Swift and dramatic action is unavoidable if Penn State wants to look like they are being proactive in doing what is right, for once.

McQueary's free pass is mind boggling. It's time to cut bait and move on.
