Manny Pacquiao: 3 Reasons He Must Fight Floyd Mayweather

Tom KinslowNov 12, 2011

For years, we've talked about a super-fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather and all of the ways it might happen. Now it's time to talk about why it must happen. Here are three reasons why:

1. Legacy

Without this fight, both Pacquiao and Mayweather would continue to feast on lesser opponents, frustrating fans who could only dream of seeing the two men face each other in front of millions around the world.

Pacquiao is very aware of his legacy, and if he thinks about it, fighting Mayweather is the only option to solidify his stance in the sport one way or another.

2. Pride

I don't know about you guys, but if someone said things about me anywhere close to what Mayweather said about Pacquiao, I'd sign to almost anything to get into the ring to unleash my fury on his face.

Mayweather has made part of his name off of insulting Pacquiao, and there has been a strong war of words between the two camps. Both men are prideful, and if Pac-Man cares about his pride, he'll get into the ring and punish Mayweather for all of the vile, insulting things he's said to the media.

Honestly, I have no idea how he's waited this long.

3. Money

In sports, money rules everything, and a fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather would generate millions upon millions of dollars.

Pacquiao has made tens of millions in his career, but few men generate money and buzz for a fight quite like Mayweather. This would be the biggest fight in boxing's history in terms of revenue generated and payouts for both men.

He may hate Mayweather's guts, but money is a cruel mistress, and he can't pass up this type of payday.
