WWE News: Huge Backstage Controversy Regarding Suspension of Evan Bourne

Drake OzNov 10, 2011

As you know by now, Evan Bourne was suspended earlier this week for 30 days for his first violation of the WWE’s Talent Wellness Program.

The suspension was believed to be a result of Bourne failing a drug test after testing positive for synthetic marijuana, and it is apparently causing some major controversy backstage in the WWE.

There has been a lot of controversy surrounding Evan Bourne’s suspension. Bourne was suspended for smoking fake marijuana, believed to be Spice. Word is that Bourne used it at a party with other WWE talents and that one or more wrestlers above Bourne on the roster were using it.

Talk among the wrestlers has to do with the idea that a mid-carder like Bourne would get suspended for doing the same thing that a main eventer does and doesn’t get suspended.

Sometimes, that’s the way the cookie crumbles.

While I don’t agree with the WWE’s double standard here of punishing a wrestler for one thing and not punishing another wrestler for the same offense, it’s really not all that surprising. Wrestlers who are higher up on the card are going to be able to get away with a lot more than wrestlers below them.

It’s always been like that and it likely always will be.

This somewhat reminds of the Signature Pharmacy scandal in 2007 when Randy Orton’s name was brought up in the investigation, but he never actually missed any TV time and was even main-eventing SummerSlam at the time. On the other hand, Chris Master’s name also came up and he was nowhere to be found for a while afterward.

Certain people getting privileges that others don’t get doesn’t just go on in wrestling. It goes on in every profession.

It just sucks to be Evan Bourne in this case.

He’s sitting on the sidelines when he could be involved in a big match at Survivor Series, while a couple of other wrestlers are probably wrestling at the pay-per-view even though they broke the same rules that he did.

Who ever said life was fair?
