Serie A Power Rankings: Round 10
*I would like to apologize to everyone for the tardiness of this article. I normally publish the Monday after a round, but I have been extremely busy.
Round 10 brought about a combination of postponements, nail biters, and down to the wire finishes. It wasn't the most exciting way to head into the international break, but the league still has 28 more rounds to wow us with. Expect plenty of great matches ahead.
There was hardly any movement this week, except at the middle of the rankings, but where do Italy's best stack up in the Round 10 edition of the Serie A power rankings?
20. Cesena (20)
1 of 20Round 10: Lost 1-0 vs. Lecce (H)
The woes continue for Cesena as it continues to look like their second year up in Serie A may be their last before a trip back to Serie B.
As we move into November, Cesena have gone the first two months without a victory and have only three draws, which is also as many goals as they have through nine games. It has been a terrible season thus far for the club.
When you have no wins in nine matches and a goal only every three matches, you know you're in trouble. Despite having talented players like Antonio Candreva, Adrian Mutu, Marco Parolo and Citadin Eder, the club can't get anything going.
Round 11: 11/20 vs. Bologna (A)
19. Novara (18)
2 of 20Round 10: Lost 2-0 vs. Roma (H)
Again, Novara continue to play more and more like a promoted team lost for direction.
Things have not panned out as well as Novara had hoped and they remain in the drop zone as they have most of this season.
They need to find a winning form soon.
Round 11: 11/20 vs. Genoa (A)
18. Chievo Verona (19)
3 of 20Round 10: Won 1-0 vs. Fiorentina (H)
Chievo found a big win on an extremely wet afternoon against Fiorentina.
The Flying Donkeys remain four points away from the drop zone, but the club are still not out of hot water yet.
Through 10 games, they have not exactly been impressive. Good, consistent form has eluded them all year.
Round 11: 11/20 vs. Catania (A)
17. Inter Milan (17)
4 of 20Round 10: Match vs. Genoa postponed
Struggling Inter will have had three weeks off the next time they take the pitch. Their Round 10 match with Genoa has been postponed.
16. Bologna (15)
5 of 20Round 10: Lost 3-1 vs. Palermo
Not that anyone could have expected Bologna to have a fighting chance in this one, but the loss drops the struggling club down another spot.
Bologna had found their way up a few spots in the rankings last week, but another loss moves them back down.
Not really much going for this team in any way, shape or form. The idea of a long season should be one that Bologna fans get used to.
Round 11: 11/20 vs. Cesena (H)
15. Lecce (16)
6 of 20Round 10: Won 1-0 vs. Cesena (A)
Lecce pulled off another win last week, putting them ever closer to leaving the drop zone.
A win over lowly Cesena puts Lecce on eight points, as many as Inter, but the Nerrazurri have the goal difference. Inter have a match in hand though, so it won't the gap could widen soon.
Can Lecce climb out of the abyss? I have been promoting a trip back to Serie B all season. I won't go back on that yet.
Round 11: 11/20 vs. Roma (A)
14. Parma (14)
7 of 20Round 10: Lost 1-0 vs. Lazio (A)
Another rough loss for Parma, a team who has been playing exceptionally poor of late after cracking into the top 10 a few weeks ago.
They have to figure this problem out fast. The form is quickly getting worse and worse for a team that had high hopes going into the first weekend.
Round 11: 11/20 vs. Udinese (H)
13. Genoa (13)
8 of 20Round 10: Match vs. Inter Milan postponed
Genoa remain at 13 after their match with Inter was postponed.
12. Siena (12)
9 of 20Round 10: Lost 2-1 vs. Udinese (A)
Never easy to go to the Friuli and that was the case for Siena in their loss to Udinese.
Despite the loss, Siena do remain in the top half of the table. Can they stay there? It will be a difficult battle, but we shall see.
Round 11: 11/20 vs. Atalanta (H)
11. Catania (8)
10 of 20Round 10: Lost 4-0 vs. AC Milan (A)
Catania were undone by Milan on their trip to the San Siro.
They let Milan completely control the game and the well-balanced attack had it going on the night.
They remain in the upper half of the table and could have easily moved into European contention with a win, but there is time.
Round 11: 11/20 vs. Chievo Verona (H)
10. Cagliari (9)
11 of 20Round 10: Lost 1-0 vs. Atalanta (A)
A tough loss on the road in Round 10 to a very tough Atalanta side sees Cagliari drop one spot.
This was always going to be an interesting battle as both Cagliari and Atalanta have been turning heads throughout Italy and the world of football in general for their play this season.
Cagliari have given people reason to believe they are for real this season and could have a say in European qualification.
Inter await next and the chance to prove that they are serious about competing.
Round 11: 11/19 vs. Inter Milan (A)
9. Fiorentina (6)
12 of 20Round 10: Lost 1-0 vs. Chievo Verona (A)
A terrible loss for La Viola. Riccardo Montolivo's poor form following the summer fallout continues and Fiorentina fell to a terrible Chievo Verona team.
Things had been looking good for the Florence club, but this loss puts them back a little bit.
They'll have wanted to use the international break to make sure they are absolutely ready for their next challenge, which happens to be the hottest club in Serie A and the reigning champions, as AC Milan visit the Artemio Franchi.
Round 11: 11/19 vs. AC Milan (H)
8. Roma (11)
13 of 20Round 10: Won 2-0 vs. Novara (A)
It may have been Novara, but Roma's three points were important to bounce back from some lousy form.
Bojan Krkic continued his excellent form, tallying a goal for the second straight round and looks to be Roma's go-to guy at the moment.
They'll need Bojan to start finding the net more often if they want to continue to fight the big boys.
Round 11: 11/20 vs. Lecce (H)
7. Atalanta (10)
14 of 20Round 10: Won 1-0 vs. Cagliari (H)
Atalanta, wow.
Here is a friendly reminder that if it hadn't been for the six-point deduction proceeding the season, La Dea would currently be on 18 points, which would put them in fifth place, just behind Juventus and within three points of leaders Udinese and Lazio.
Another big win came their way in the last round, with German Denis striking 10 minutes from time to see them past Cagliari.
The form is incredible for Atalanta, who in their return to Serie A have only lost twice thus far.
Can they keep it up? Its a question that's been asked a lot. It looks like they are for real right now.
Round 11: 11/20 vs. Siena (A)
6. Palermo (7)
15 of 20Round 10: Won 3-1 vs. Bologna (H)
There was no movement in the Top Five this week so Palermo's convincing victory only moves them up to sixth in the power rankings.
It was a simple victory over a weak opponent, but the Rosanero are continuing to look good this season. Despite the loss of Javier Pastore, this team can play with anybody.
They will have to be at their best in their first game following the break. A win at the Juventus Arena could see them slip into the Top Five.
Round 11: 11/20 vs. Juventus (A)
5. Napoli (5)
16 of 20Round 10: Match vs. Juventus postponed
Napoli stay put as their match with Juventus, one of the most anticipated of the season, was postponed in Round 10.
Round 11: 11/19 vs. Lazio (H)
4. Udinese (4)
17 of 20Round 10: Won 2-1 vs. Siena (H)
It was a quick start for Udinese, scoring one minute into their Round 10 match, and then Antonio Di Natale sealed the deal in a 2-1 win over Siena.
It wasn't a match that ever threatened to be a problem for Udinese, who remain at the top of the table.
They return from the break on Sunday with another match that seemingly screams three points.
Round 11: 11/20 vs. Parma (A)
3. Lazio (3)
18 of 20Round 10: Won 1-0 vs. Parma (H)
Lazio kept up their winning ways with a 1-0 victory at the Olimpico in Round 10.
Guiseppe Sculli's late strike saw Lazio to the top of the table, joint with Udinese at 21 points.
Lazio continue to look good and while at the start of the season they were not necessarily considered in the hunt, the summer spending spree has paid off and Lazio could be in with a good chance at the title.
The international break gives Lazio plenty of time to prepare for a tough test in pursuit of that goal.
Round 11: 11/19 vs. Napoli (A)
2. Juventus (2)
19 of 20Round 10: Match vs. Napoli postponed
Juventus don't move at all this week. Their match with Napoli has been pushed back. They get back to work in Round 11.
Round 11: 11/20 vs. Palermo (H)
1. AC Milan (1)
20 of 20Round 10: Won 4-0 vs. Catania
Though first place still eludes them, the champions are the hottest team at the moment.
It was said after losing to Juventus that the goal would be five straight wins, and Milan have now met that goal.
Prior to the first international break, Milan had one win and five goals. In between the October and November breaks, Milan have won all five of their matches and have scored 18 goals.
The sudden burst of offense, despite not having Alexandre Pato and now without Antonio Cassano for the season, makes it seem that if Milan can get the kinks on defense settled, there's no stopping them.
Juventus will obviously provide a great threat all year, as could any of the top five on this list, but Milan are looking the best right now.
Round 11: 11/19 vs. Fiorentina (A)
