Manny Pacquiao: Is Amir Khan or Sergio Martinez a Better Fight for Pac-Man?
Nothing gets sports fans buzzing quite like when two friends square off, and if Manny Pacquiao can't come to an agreement with Floyd Mayweather, Amir Khan would be the perfect choice for Pac-Man's next bout.
Sure, Sergio Martinez would be a name that gets floated around if the super fight fails to materialize, but it should be Khan who gets the nod. The two men's friendship may be a sticking point in possible negotiations, but the reality is that Khan is the type of man who could give Pacquiao a much-needed test in the ring.
Both men are trained by Freddie Roach and the two men are close, but in the past, Khan hasn't strayed away from the thought of stepping into the ring with Pacquiao, leaving the door open for a bout that would energize the sport of boxing. Friendships are important, but if the two men are really that close, they would be able to weather any storm that would arise during the pre-fight hype.
Years ago, Khan was eying up Pacquiao, and I don't see why time would change his perception in his place of boxing
Per the BBC:
""Diaz and Pacquiao are great fighters, but I could beat them both," said Khan.
"I'm fighting in front of a 10,000 sell-out on Saturday night so I think I'm one of the main men in the division.
"And by the end of the year I'm not just going to be one of the main men, I'm going to be number one, everybody's going to be after me.
"I've got a high rating with the WBO [2] and WBC [4] and I feel I'm ready for a world title shot."
"
If Khan wants to be the best in the sport, he'll have to go through Pacquiao and friendship and respect can't stand in the way of that. Pac-Man wouldn't let it hold his career back and neither should Khan.
This is a fight that fans would love and draw a lot of interest around the sport. Mayweather is the biggest prize out there, but if a deal can't get done, and the odds are high that it won't, Khan should be the first name on Pacquiao's list.
If the champ comes calling, Khan better not say no.
