LSU Football: Time to Start Jordan Jefferson at QB and Forget About Jarrett Lee
Jordan Jefferson was supposed to be the starting quarterback this season before he got himself suspended for getting into a fight a week before the season started. Everybody began to panic, as many thought the Tigers season was over, as LSU had National Championship dreams.
Senior quarterback Jarrett Lee then stepped in and played wonderful, leading the Tigers to an undefeated season.
Despite how well Lee has played, Jefferson is back, and the quarterback controversy has started in Baton Rouge.
It may be time to go with Jefferson again, like the original plan was, and ride him to the end of the season. If you saw the same game I saw last week against Alabama, you'll know why.
Lee threw seven passes against the Crimson Tide and completed five. Two of them were to the wrong team.
Don't get me wrong, Lee played fabulous while Jefferson was suspended. He made the throws when they needed to be made, and he made very few mistakes to give them a chance to win every ball game.
But at the same time, he didn't make that many plays. He threw the ball very few times as the Tigers relied mostly on their running game and defense. Only once all season he threw for over 200 yards, and only three times he threw more than one touchdown pass.
Lee is more of a game manager than a game winner. He won't make many mistakes to keep you in games but he won't make many plays to help you win, either.
Jefferson, on the other hand, isn't exactly smart with the football at times, but at least he can make plays. With Jefferson, you have to respect his ability to run the ball, and he can pick up nice chunks of yards when nobody is open.
He has also been a lot safer with the ball in the limited action he's seen this season.
Jefferson is the quarterback that could be the difference maker for the LSU Tigers and really put this team over the top. They'd have an athletic quarterback running their offense behind a dominant running game.
The tigers have two cupcake games coming up before a big showdown against the Arkansas Razorbacks. Now is the time to knock the rust off of Jefferson and let him finish the job that Lee has started.
It may sound rude, but it's the truth.
Jefferson is the quarterback you want right now if you're the LSU Tigers.
