WWE Survivor Series 2011: Top 5 Chris Jericho Moments in Survivor Series History
Chris Jericho is a "hot button" topic online. He is a favorite among many, and he seems to always be surrounded by rumors. To continue my theme of Survivor Series, I am going to count down his most memorable moments from the November classic!
As usual, these are just my opinions. Also, I will not be mentioning the main event of 2004. Chris Jericho was a big part of that, but I will not be listing it for obvious reasons. With that being said, let's jump right into some controversy.....
5. Chyna Defeats Jericho in 1999
1 of 5This was his first Survivor Series, and it was a title match. How awesome is that for Chris?
For a quick side story, my friend's dad was one of many to call and complain to WWE over this particular storyline. He thought the segment where Jericho took a hammer to Chyna's hand was "too much."
While I would not have called in and complained, I did agree with him. This entire storyline was one of the many reasons the "Attitude Era" is thankfully done. For all of its good, it had twice as much bad.
Back to this match, it was a good Intercontinental Championship match. The ending with Chyna winning was a shock, but Jericho would get the title the following month anyways. Too bad Jericho never did follow through with his "If I lose, I will have a sex change" ultimatum...
4. Jericho in 2003
2 of 5This was such a great storyline. I loved this. While the entire year of 2003 is often looked down upon, this was one of the shining moments for Raw.
Chris Jericho wanted Stone Cold out of the company, and he aligned himself with Eric Bischoff to do so. It all culminated in a Survivor Series tag-team elimination match. If Bischoff's team won, Austin was gone. If Bischoff's team lost, Austin could do whatever he wanted again.
Sure enough, Jericho was one of the brights spots in this feud. While Randy Orton did get the final pin, this entire night was helped by Jericho. He carried the story, and he owned the match!
3. Chris on Team WWF in 2001
3 of 5This is one of my favorite storylines of all time. Team WWF (WWE) vs. Team Alliance (WCW and ECW) was the payoff to months of struggles between the two companies.
It was all going to end, one way or another. Of course, Jericho was on Team WWF. However, he and one of his partners, The Rock, just couldn't get on the same page.
The boiling point came when Jericho was eliminated. Obviously, he was none too happy, so what does he do to take out his frustrations? He attacks The Rock! He turned on his own team...
Thankfully, The Rock survived and won the match, but the message was clear: Jericho was officially a heel, and he was doing his own thing from now on. One match later, we all saw his crowning moment...
2. Jericho Owns a Fan in 2009
4 of 51. Chris Jericho was born in New York.
2. I did not really enjoy this triple-threat match for the World title very much. The Big Show and The Undertaker, along with Jericho, just never did it for me.
However, this moment will live forever. A fan yells at Jericho to go back to Toronto. Jericho, kindly, responds to his remark. In an instant, a classic Survivor Series moment is made.
The video speaks for itself folks! That is why Jericho is an amazing performer...
1. Jericho Is in the Main Event in 2008
5 of 5Yes, he was in an epic main event in 2002 (and 2004). Yes, he had a great match with Kane in 2000. Sadly, none of those were about just him. The first Elimination Chamber was all about Shawn Michaels and Triple H. The match with Kane in 2000 was also not about him.
This night was all about Chris Jericho as World champion. He was the main event of the evening, not a part of it. He was the man!
John Cena was returning from injury, and his opponent of the night was Jericho. Weeks and weeks of promos building up this match belonged to Chris. Nobody else was the spotlight—Jericho was.
In the end, Cena won, but the "MVP" of the storyline was Jericho. He was in the main event of Survivor Series, and he came through big time!
