Pacquiao vs Mayweather: We'll Know If the Fight Will Happen on Saturday Night

Mick AkersNov 9, 2011

With Floyd Mayweather announcing that he will fight again on May 5th, 2012 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, and hinting he wants Manny Pacquiao to be his opponent, we will know after the Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez fight on Saturday night if the fight will finally take place.

If Pacquiao is victorious against Marquez on Saturday night, the attention will immediately shift back to the possibility of the two welterweight greats meeting in the ring next, and more specifically, on May 5th.

One big step in that direction will be if Pacquiao calls Mayweather out in front of the tens of thousands in attendance and the millions watching around the world.

Once Pacquiao formally extends a challenge of his own to Mayweather on such a big stage, the pressure to finally get the fight signed and delivered would be as big as it has been in the past three years that the mega-fight has been speculated.

Another way we will know if the fight will take place is if Mayweather himself shows up to the Pacquiao fight to be able to react to Pacquiao if and when he does call him out for a fight. Having Mayweather at the fight would show the boxing fans that he is serious about the fight finally coming to fruition, as he will be in the same vicinity as Pacquiao for the first time in a long time.

If the two are able to exchange the verbal blows they have been delivering to each other over the media over the past few years to each other in person, live on Pay-Per-View, that would all but guarantee that the fight we have all been waiting to take place will finally become a reality sometime in 2012.
