LSU Football: The Keys to Beating Arkansas and Georgia

Following its win over Alabama, LSU has been without a doubt the most impressive team in college football. They beat six teams that were ranked at the time and four of those games were away from home.

But the Tigers are not out of the water just yet, they still have to get by current No. 8 Arkansas and the SEC East champion who will either be No. 15 Georgia or No. 13 South Carolina. The Bulldogs currently have a one game lead on the Gamecocks but South Carolina won the head to head matchup earlier this season

That said, it is pretty likely that Georgia will win the SEC East because the only tough test is this week against Auburn and the game will be played in Athens. South Carolina has to get by a tough Florida team this week as well.

So what does LSU need to do to remain perfect and beat Arkansas and Georgia?

Obviously the first thing is to keep dominating on defense. Not only do the Tigers rank in the Top 10 in every major defensive statistic but they are also second in the country in the turnover margin.

Holding Alabama to six points and less than 300 yards was no small task and they’ll need a similar performance against an explosive Arkansas team to keep them in the game.

Special teams was also a huge deciding factor in the game against Alabama and it will also be a big factor against Arkansas. The Hogs rank 24th and 10th in punt and kickoff returns, respectively, and their punter ranks 14th in the country.

The other major thing will be dominating play in the trenches. LSU is giving up less than a sack per game while getting over two themselves in addition to 7.4 tackles for loss per game.

Georgia’s rush defense ranks eighth and is tied for 20th for tackles for loss. Jake Bequette had a monster game against South Carolina for Arkansas and he could be another huge problem for LSU if they don’t win the battle in the trenches.

However, if they do all of those things, the Tigers will be heading to the national championship.
