Pacquiao vs. Marquez: Why Marquez Doesn't Have a Chance

Kyle VassaloNov 9, 2011

Juan Manuel Marquez has given Manny Pacquiao everything he could handle in his first two fights, but Marquez finds himself grossly outclassed in the third edition of Marquez vs. Pacquiao.

Marquez is a veteran fighter who has experience in the ring with Pacquiao. If you look at the first two fights, it's easy think Marquez has a solid shot at taking down Pacquiao. However, the fighters are in completely different stages in their career now than they were when the first and second editions of this fight took place.

For the rematch in 2008, Pacquiao was a star in his late 20s, ready to break into the superstar status he's obtained now. Marquez was a seasoned fighter in his mid-30s, with the means and desire to rack up a signature win or two before he started declining.

Now, Pacquiao is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world and Marquez is flirting with 40. Since the last fight, Pacquiao has only grown stronger, while Marquez has naturally been slowed down by age.

This is the perfect fight for Pacquiao. It's a chance for him to prove he's fighting better than he ever has in his entire career. Essentially, we're able to compare this fight to the first two editions of this matchup and note the difference in which the two take place.

Floyd Mayweather sucker punching rising star Victor Cruz won't have nearly the renown of Pacquiao doing away with an established veteran he's struggled with in the past.

There will be no draw, no split decision. Pacquiao is the best fighter in the ring. Three years ago, this fight was must-see TV. The 2011 version of the fight will show there is only one fighter who can prove worthy of fighting Pacquiao now.
