Joe Paterno Was an Enabler to Horrific Crimes

For decades, legendary Penn State football coach Joe Paterno has run a program defined by its ability to build character and its high moral standing.

While numerous Division I football programs were marred with recruiting infractions and allegations of wrongdoing, Penn State took pride in steering clear of such offenses.

The allegations against former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky are astronomically worse than a recruiting violation. The child molestation and sexual abuse allegations Sandusky has been charged with are despicable and justify a maximum prison sentence.

Questions have arisen over whether or not Joe Paterno will keep his head coaching position at Penn State. His supporters will say that Paterno did nothing wrong and fulfilled his legal obligations.

While technically Paterno did not break the law, he allowed a pedophile to walk free and victimize more children.

In a grand jury report, Paterno stated that his graduate assistant informed him that Sandusky initiated in a sexual act with a young boy in the Penn State locker room. Paterno informed Penn State athletic director Tim Curley, who proceeded to do nothing about the situation.

Paterno didn’t take any responsibility in making sure that the crime was reported to the authorities. Instead, the beloved coach let the incident slide under the rug, not worrying about the innocent victim or the possibility of more victims.

Paterno is the most influential figure in the history of Penn State University. Paterno betrayed not only the University, but also the young boys who were attacked when he failed to make sure the police were made aware of the molestation.

A young boy was raped in the Penn State football locker room and Paterno turned a blind eye. Instead of reporting a crime that happened in his facilities, the cowardly Paterno did nothing, allowing a serial child molester to walk free and assault more defenseless children.
