NFL Power Rankings: AFC West Takes Place as Game's Most Mediocre Division

Michael DixonNov 9, 2011

Last season, the NFC West took a place as probably the worst division in the history of the NFL. No team had a winning record. But the funny thing is that no teams were horrendous. Maybe that was because they got to play six game against each other, but none of them threatened the No. pick in the draft.

This season, that honor goes to the AFC West.

Through the halfway point, no team is above .500. The two teams that were once hopeless are now playing as well as the teams that were expected to do well.

The Chiefs started the season 0-3 but even after an embarrassing blowout loss to the Dolphins, they sit at 4-4, tied for first place.

Denver, who has looked hopeless this season, is only a game behind the Chiefs, Chargers and Raiders.

The Chargers and Raiders are each on a slide.

The fact of the matter is that no team will get anywhere near the top pick of the draft. They have all won too many games as it is as still have to play each other through the second half of the season. Someone is going to win those games.

But there isn't a team in this division that gives me the confidence that they can do any better than 4-4 from this point on. They all have great potential, but all lack any consistency at all.

None of these teams can take a single win for granted this season.

Who will win the division?

I'll go with the Chargers at this point, but I don't have a lot of confidence in that pick. What I am confident in as that whoever wins this division will be toast in the playoffs.

For that to change, I'll need to see a lot more than just a good game or two in the second half of the year.
