NFL Week 10 Picks: Teams That Will Dominate the Run Game En Route to Big Wins

Tim KeeneyNov 9, 2011

Here's a quick look at three NFL teams that will rely on the run game for big wins in Week 10.

Atlanta Falcons

Yes, Matt Ryan connected with Julio Jones for two long touchdowns last week, but one came on a magical descent through two defenders, and the other was all on Jones out-running the defense.

Ryan is still struggling with accuracy and hasn't looked comfortable with Roddy White yet this season. Fortunately for them, they will be able to turn to Michael Turner against the Saints for a win.

New Orleans is giving up 5.3 yards per carry this season, which is the worst in the league. Atlanta feeds Turner a lot, but he should get tons of work in this one. Even Jacquizz Rodgers should get 10-12 carries in this one.

Houston Texans

Houston has turned in quite the running game lately, especially with Andre Johnson out. In the past three games, Arian Foster and Ben Tate have averaged a total of just over 36 carries per game.

Against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a team that gives up a healthy 4.9 yards per carry, expect Houston to do a lot more of the same.

Especially in a game on the road where Houston will want to control the clock, I wouldn't be surprised if Foster and Tate combined for 40 carries.

St. Louis Rams

Steven Jackson seems to quietly churn out big seasons every year, and he's doing it again in 2011.

Jackson is averaging over 82 rushing yards per game, 5.1 yards per carry and looks as healthy as ever. On the road against a Cleveland Browns team giving up 144 rushing yards per game, St. Louis will lean on Jackson as much as physically possible.

There's not much more to it. St. Louis's passing game isn't working right now. If they want to win, they'll hand it off to Jackson 25 times and make the necessary stops on the other side of the ball.
