Manny Pacquiao: Filipino Great and Boxing Community Honor Joe Frazier

Ryan RudnanskyNov 8, 2011

After Joe Frazier passed away to liver cancer at 67 years old on Monday, the boxing community has come out in droves to honor the boxing legend.

That includes eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao, who is getting set for his third and final fight with rival Juan Manuel Marquez on Nov. 12 in Las Vegas.

Said Pacquiao, via NESN.com:

"

"Boxing lost a great champion, and the sport lost a great ambassador."

"

This came after Floyd Mayweather Jr. sent out his condolences and offered to pay for Frazier's funeral services:

But perhaps the greatest quotes about the historic heavyweight came from one of his biggest foes, George Foreman.

Foreman, who captured Frazier's heavyweight title in 1973 when he handed him his first career loss via TKO, captured Frazier beautifully.

Said Frazier:

"

"Even his fighting style was his way of life.

"Talk about Joe Louis, Muhammad Ali, even me, George Foreman, but the fact is there is only one common, ordinary everyday Joe and he is 'the one and only Joe Frazier.'"

"

Even Ali, Frazier's biggest foe who handed him crushing losses in Ali vs. Frazier II and "Thrilla in Manila," was quick to pay his regards.

Said Ali:

"

"The world has lost a great champion. I will always remember Joe with respect and admiration. My sympathy goes out to his family and loved ones."

"

Ali was known for calling Frazier an "Uncle Tom" and "Gorilla" before their legendary fights, but it's clear his admiration for the storied boxer was grand. When he defeated Frazier in the deciding "Thrilla in Manila," he said at the time it was the closest to dying he'd ever been and was just thankful there were no more Joe Fraziers to fight.

Frazier will go down as not only one of the greatest boxers to ever live; he will go down as a symbol of heart and determination.

If you'd been living on another planet and didn't know who Frazier was, the response from the boxing community upon his death was all you needed to know about the former heavyweight champion of the world.
