NFL Power Rankings Week 10: Looking at Which Losses Dropped Teams Most

Ryan PhillipsNov 8, 2011

The San Diego Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles were barely hanging on to their spots in my power rankings based on what I thought they were capable of. After their performances in Week 9, I've dropped them considerably.

The Chargers lost to the Packers 45-38 on Sunday in a home game they had multiple chances to win. It was San Diego's third straight loss and dropped them to 4-4 on the season as quarterback Philip Rivers continued to struggle mightily.

Rivers threw for 385 yards and four touchdowns against the Packers, but also tossed three interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. The Chargers simply can't afford to be that sloppy and rely solely on their talent to earn them wins.

Until Rivers and his teammates prove they can protect the ball and stop shooting themselves in the foot, they will continue to fall out of contention in the AFC.

The Philadelphia Eagles had a chance to reassert themselves as a top contender in the NFC on Monday Night Football last night. Instead, they suffered a 30-24 home loss to the unimpressive Chicago Bears and fell to 3-5 on the season.

The Eagles were the sexy pick to win the NFC before the season but have shown themselves to be incredibly sloppy, undisciplined and anything but clutch. Last night quarterback Michael Vick missed wide open receivers on numerous occasions and a few times when he did hit them, his wideouts dropped sure catches.

Vick also threw an interception and DeSean Jackson was stripped on a punt return, both of those mistakes led to points for the Bears.

The Eagles are undoubtedly talented, but until they actually convert that talent into wins, we will all be left wondering what could have been.
