NFL Power Rankings Week 10: Examining the League's Best in Show

Ryan PhillipsNov 8, 2011

Is there any doubt that the 8-0 Green Bay Packers are the NFL's best team? If you've seen the Packers play this season, you are aware of just how efficient they are offensively, and that while they give up chunks of yards on defense, the unit does just enough to help the team win.

For Green Bay, it all starts at quarterback, and Aaron Rodgers is having arguably the best start to a season in NFL history. So far through eight games, Rodgers has completed 192 of 265 passes for 2,619 yards, with 24 touchdowns and just 3 interceptions.

He leads the NFL in completion percentage (72.5), yards per attempt (9.88) and his NFL-best passer rating is a ridiculous 129.1, which happens to be 28.5 points higher than second place (Drew Brees, 100.6).

The Packers' offense ranks fourth in the NFL in total yards, averaging 416.4 yards per game, while they are scoring a league-best 34.4 points per game as well. Rodgers leads an offense that is third in the league in passing yards (312.0 per game) and 20th in rushing yards (104.4 per game).

Green Bay has had issues allowing yards to opposing offenses, and that might be the team's only weakness. The Packers rank 30th in total defense (399.6 yards per game), and are 31st against the pass (299.6 yards per game), but do boast the league's eighth-best run defense (100.0 yards per game).

One area that has helped the Packers to continue winning despite the defense's shortcomings has been the league-high 16 interceptions they have forced. The team also boasts a plus-11 turnover margin.

Still, even though the defense has struggled at times, Rodgers and the offense have been virtually unstoppable. Until an opponent figures out a way to slow down the Packers on that side of the ball, they will just continue outscoring people as they did the San Diego Chargers in their 45-38 Week 9 win.
