Joe Paterno Press Conference Canceled: Penn State Scared to Let Joe Pa Speak

News just came down the wire that Joe Paterno’s regularly scheduled Tuesday press conference has been cancelled.

Penn State’s spokesman, Jeff Nelson, handed out a short, typed statement to the massive amounts of media members who were gathered.

The note reads:

It was supposed to start at 12:20 p.m. EDT and this was given out at approximately 11:40 a.m. EDT.

I am not surprised whatsoever that the program decided to cancel the conference, which would have done nothing but embarrass Joe Paterno and further damage the schools image.

Before cancelling the presser, the school issued a statement saying the main focus of the talks with the media would be about Saturday’s Senior Day game against the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Paterno was not expected to address the scandal at all and would not field questions on it.

Obviously, any reporter worth their salt would attempt to get Jerry Sandusky questions in and see how Paterno reacted.

Media members attempted to get Nelson to speak after he handed out the cancellation notice but it was to no avail and he quickly ducked into privacy.

Graham Spanier, Penn State University president, was the one who reportedly decided to end the conference before it began.

While Paterno is not in any legal trouble himself for the Sandusky allegations, he supposedly did have knowledge of what took place and kept it shrouded in secrecy along with the school VP and athletic director at the time.

Anything Paterno said on record about the allegations would further fuel the media firestorm surrounding the school and most likely would not do anything to help their damaged image.

They will eventually need to end their silence and speak up to salvage what is left of the Nittany Lions’ reputation and begin to move on and rebuild.

Joe Paterno will most likely not be around as a coach or in any affiliation with the university when this happens.
