Week 10 Waiver Wire: Identifying the Biggest Boom-or-Bust Adds
When sifting through the free agent market of fantasy football, it really is an inexact science because you never technically know if the addition will make or break your team.
That being said, here are four players that are dubbed "boom" or "bust" for the remainder of the fantasy football season. So just be sure to proceed with caution when trying to improve your roster.
Blaine Gabbert: QB, Jaguars

Colts Release Kenny Moore

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Even though the Jaguars have a solid ground game, it's clear they are being careful in giving rookie QB Blaine Gabbert the green light. Well, although he should earn more opportunities to toss the ball around, he's not the safest of additions.
With roughly four weeks remaining in the fantasy football regular season—maybe five if your in a eight or 10 team league—Jacksonville's next four games don't favor Gabbert.
First the Jags' play two away games in Indy and Cleveland, and then two home games versus Houston and San Diego. The away game at Indy looks appealing but that game could potentially be the Colts first win as Jacksonville significantly struggles on the road.
In addition, it's not like Gabbert has any reliable receiving targets, so unless you're really desperate, veer away from Blaine.
BUST
Christian Ponder: QB, Vikings
We enter a similar situation with rookie QB Christian Ponder in Minnesota. Solid ground game, but not a very appealing receiving core.
The difference however, is that the Vikings have been letting Ponder feel the game and learn for himself—to an extent. They are going to pound the rock with Adrian Peterson quite often, and rightfully so, as he is arguably the game's best RB.
But, as evidence by how soundly he played against Green Bay and Carolina, it would not be surprising to see Ponder launch the old pigskin—I know, it's leather—down-field more so as the season progresses.
The next four games Ponder could very well have some solid outings, as Green Bay still has a vulnerable pass defense, much like Oakland and Denver.
Atlanta has improved, but as long as Peterson continues to roll, Ponder will have been setup nicely to pick them a part as well.
BOOM
Roy Helu: RB, Redskins
Last week Washington RB Roy Helu accounted for almost 150 total yards against San Francisco. Too bad 105 of it came on 14 receptions, because that's what RBs are suppose to do, right? Get 14 catches per game.
What's appealing about Helu is that regardless of who's in the backfield for him, coach Mike Shanahan can make any RB effective. He had three different RBs gain over 1,000 rush yards three straight seasons in Denver after Terrell Davis was injured, so why can't Helu be the next?
Because the Redskins have no other talent around him offensively. If you take any current starter on the Washington offense, including Helu, none of them would start for any other NFL team.
Helu may be the main Brahma Bull in our nation's capital, but with games against a more confident Miami team (on the road), Dallas, Seattle (on the road), and the Jets (who just held Fred Jackson in check), Helu isn't gaining nowhere near 150 total yards again this season.
BUST
Matt Moore: QB, Dolphins
In his last three games Miami QB Matt Moore has thrown four TDs to just one pick. Now, although his passing yards per game average isn't that high, he's not making too many mistakes—at least as of recent.
The next four games Moore may be a decent addition provided that your league starts two QBs. Miami hosts Washington this week and the Redskins do have a solid pass rush and defense. But, the Redskins don't play nearly as well on the road either, and winning last week has given a bit more confidence.
Thereafter are the Bills who, although can force many turnovers, also allow a lot more points than they should. Buffalo is susceptible to anyone with a stud WR and that game could be Brandon Marshall's breakout performance of 2011.
The road contest at Dallas will be tough, but if Miami approached them similar to how Philly did, the Dolphins can have some respectable production out of Moore. Then the Raiders come to South Florida for a visit and Oakland's pass defense ranks No. 20, while the rush defense ranks No. 29.
Advantage Matt Moore, who's using these game's as an interview to become the full-time starter in 2012.
